Dr. Ubadire Agua has been announced as the new substantive Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU). His appointment, which took effect on Monday, September 23, 2024, brings new leadership to the university’s Public Relations unit.

A seasoned public relations expert, Dr. Agua is a member of the International Communication Association and the Institute of Place Management (IPM), an international professional body that supports individuals committed to developing, managing, and improving places. He holds a Master of Arts in Business and Organizational Communication (Mass Communication) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Port Harcourt.
Dr. Agua assumes the role after the successful tenure of the acting PRO, Mr. Patrick Oparah, who has managed the unit since March 2023. In his conversation with MOUAU Online, Dr. Agua expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and outlined his plans for the department.
“I am truly honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. Public relations is crucial to our university’s growth, and I intend to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessors, especially Mr. Oparah, who has done an admirable job maintaining the unit and ensuring smooth communication flow,” Dr. Agua said.
He also spoke about his vision to enhance the university’s public image, improve media engagement, and strengthen relationships with internal and external stakeholders. “MOUAU has so many achievements and untold stories. My goal is to make sure these stories reach a wider audience, and I look forward to working with the entire team to achieve that,” he added.
Mr. Oparah, the outgoing acting PRO, commended the appointment and expressed confidence in Dr. Agua’s leadership. “I have no doubt that Dr. Agua will bring fresh insights and continue advancing the work we’ve done so far. It’s been a privilege leading the unit, and I am excited to see how the new leadership will further elevate MOUAU’s communication strategies,” he said.
Dr. Agua’s appointment marks a new phase for the Public Relations unit as the university seeks to bolster its communication efforts and promote its academic and community-focused initiatives.
