Ebonyi Judge Accused of Bias as Student Remains Detained Since 2024

A 200-level student of Ebonyi State University, ThankGod Nwigboji, has remained in detention since August 2024 over allegations linked to a custody dispute between Susan Ogechi Udeogu and her estranged husband, Emmanuel Chinedu, with accusations that Justice Chinyere Ken Eze showed bias while handling parts of the case.

A judge in the Ebonyi State Judiciary has been accused of bias in a custody dispute that reportedly led to the continued detention of a 200-level student of Ebonyi State University, ThankGod Nwigboji, since August 2024.

Sources said the student’s arrest is linked to a custody battle between Susan Ogechi Udeogu, daughter of late Fred Udeogu of the Peoples Democratic Party, and her estranged husband, Emmanuel Chinedu. The dispute reportedly started after a court in Owerri granted temporary custody of the children to Chinedu.

However, sources alleged that Udeogu ignored the order and used police operatives to retrieve the children. The case also involves Justice Chinyere Ken Eze, who is said to be handling part of the matter and is married to Kenneth Eze, a senator representing Ebonyi Central under the All Progressives Congress.

The student was arrested and charged with conspiracy, abduction and child trafficking after allegedly assisting the father in trying to retrieve his children. Despite claims that CCTV footage showed he was not involved, he has remained in detention while the case continues. The matter has now been adjourned to March 31, 2026.
