Fighting Crime: Police Post to Be Established at Nnamdi Azikiwe University

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, has expressed delight in the establishment of a police post within the premises of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

This development follows his courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu who announced that a piece of land has already been provided.

The visit was described as historic, marking the first time in recent memory that a Commissioner of Police has officially visited the office of a sitting Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK. During discussions, CP Orutugu acknowledged the university’s critical role in nurturing leaders across various sectors and emphasized the need for a secure environment to facilitate academic excellence.

CP Orutugu also expressed concern over crime rates around the Ifite and Amansea axis. To combat this issue, he confirmed that a designated plot of land, already approved for security purposes, will be developed into a fully operational police post. This initiative aims to curb criminal activities and reinforce safety measures within and around the university community.

Prof. Ikechebelu, in his response, lauded the Commissioner’s commitment to security and expressed confidence in his ability to tackle crime in Anambra State and, specifically, at UNIZIK. The Vice-Chancellor highlighted that the visit aligns with his administration’s agenda for a safe and secure campus, encapsulated in his ‘BLESSeD Vision.’
