A brilliant Nigerian lady named Kofoworola Sukurat Olabisi bagged a Mathematics degree with first-class honors at Ladoke Akintola University, Nigeria. She won four scholarships from different universities abroad to study for her master’s degree.

Sukurat obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Ladoke Akintola University, Nigeria with a 4.53 over 5.00 cumulative grade point average. Her remarkable performance earned her scholarships from universities across the world.
Emporium Reporters said Sukurat applied to 11 universities but was admitted to 4 programs. She earned acceptance from Western Kentucky University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, both in the United States, the African Institute for Mathematical Science (AIMS) in Rwanda, and the Intermaths (Interdisciplinary Mathematics) from the University of L’Aquila in Italy.
Talking about how she was able to achieve success in her undergraduate studies, Sukurat said mathematics was a tricky course, and she made sure she read and revised after every class to keep herself updated.
Sukurat said the major challenge she faced during her studies was in her second year when her grade point average reduced drastically. She had to put in more effort and read harder for an excellent result.
Despite being an excellent student, Sukurat was also active in extracurricular activities. She served as the Financial Secretary of the National Association of Mathematical Science Students of Nigeria (NAMSSN) LAUTECH chapter for six months.
Of all the four schools that offered her admission, Sukurat chose Western Kentucky University in the United States. She mentioned that the university awarded her an 80% Graduate Assistantship ( Teaching and Research Assistantship) for her studies.
Sukurat said she will be studying for a master’s degree in Mathematics at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green United States.
She said she started the journey for United States graduate school application in August 2023 targeting the Fall 2024 admission adding that the application process was quite challenging.
Sukurat said the challenges were from writing a statement of purpose (SOP) to creating and reviewing academic CVs, getting strong recommendations from undergraduate institutions, and paying application fees. However, her efforts paid off and she was accepted into four programs.
She expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to her success, especially Intel Region Media and Tech Company, where she worked for a year in Nigeria before she moved to the United States.
Sukurat said Intel Region through the scholarship region department provided the resources she needed for her application and people.
‘’ Working at Intel Region has paved my way and made this achievement easier. I have all the resources and amazing people providing support,’’ she said.
