“School CCTV Cameras Were Switched Off” – Governor Alleges Foul Play in Student Kidnap

Governor Usman Ododo has raised concerns over possible sabotage in the abduction of students from Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC) Osara, Kogi State, at 9pm on Thursday, May 9th.

Governor Usman Ododo has raised concerns over possible sabotage in the abduction of students from Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC) Osara, Kogi State, on Thursday, May 9, at approximately 9 pm, while they were preparing for exams.

During his visit to the university campus for assessment, Governor Ododo stated that preliminary investigations suggest internal sabotage may have played a role in the abduction.

He expressed gratitude to security forces for their swift response in containing the attack and preventing intruders from accessing the hostels.

Governor Ododo highlighted the suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, noting that the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed in the school were inexplicably switched off during the attack.

He assured the public that security agencies are actively pursuing leads, and emphasized the priority of safely returning all abducted students while holding the perpetrators accountable.

Governor Ododo urged calm among parents and students, reassuring them of ongoing efforts to secure the students’ safe return, while withholding detailed information for operational reasons.

Ododo said;

“We installed CCTV cameras in all the classrooms and the entire perimeter of the university campus.

Yet, on the day of the attack, our investigation so far revealed that all the cameras were switched off.

“Our security agencies are on their heels and the investigation is ongoing. All our students shall return safely and the perpetrators shall be brought to book.

“I am here to see things myself; to assess the situation and also to review the ongoing operation that will ensure the safe return of the students to the school. What is most important now is how to rescue our students unhurt.
