A severe rainstorm on June 22 damaged multiple schools and staff quarters in Katsina’s Funtua area, prompting the state education ministry to assess the destruction and urge continued academic activities despite the setbacks.


A powerful rainstorm that swept through Funtua Local Government Area in Katsina State on June 22 caused widespread destruction to school buildings and staff residences, the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has confirmed.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Sani Danjuma Suleiman, several educational institutions across the Funtua Senatorial Zone were affected. The ministry expressed sorrow over the damage and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring operations.
“With profound sorrow and submission to the will of Almighty Allah, we report the significant destruction caused by a severe storm to educational infrastructure across the Funtua Senatorial Zone,” the statement read.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa, extended her sympathy to the affected communities. She urged school administrators to keep academic activities running despite the setbacks.
“We encourage all schools to maintain operations and ensure student attendance remains stable,” she stated.
The Ministry is currently evaluating the extent of the damage and will soon announce detailed recovery measures. Affected schools and staff are encouraged to reach out to the Ministry’s Public Relations Office for support.
