Reports have it that more than 20 passengers are feared dead in a boat. Included in this are pupils of Madinatu Islamiyya School in Bagwai Local Government Area of Kano State.


The said boat capsized while on its way from Badau village to Bagwai town in Kano state.
The boat had contained pupils who were said to be on their way to attend Maulud, a celebration held annually in commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
A source in Bagwai General Hospital, had said that about 20 corpses have been recovered and deposited at the hospital’s morgue while noting that over 40 passengers, including pupils of the Islamiyya School, were involved in the accident.
Malam Saminu Abdullahi, a Spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the incident stating that the fire service team was still on rescue mission at about 9:15pm.
“As we speak, the rescue team are there working and so far 20 bodies have been recovered dead while 7 were recovered alive, ” Saminu said
He added that the boat was carrying over 47 passengers out of which 7 were rescued.
