Kaduna Polytechnic has launched an investigation after students protested being denied entry to lectures over alleged dress code violations, despite the school saying the outfits seen in viral videos appeared moderate and appropriate.

The management of Kaduna Polytechnic has launched an investigation after several students were reportedly prevented from attending lectures over alleged violations of the institution’s dress code at the College of Business and Management Studies. The incident sparked widespread reactions after videos showing students protesting the action circulated on social media.
In one of the viral videos, a female student expressed frustration after she and others were stopped from entering the school premises despite claiming they were dressed modestly. She said security personnel had initially allowed them into the campus before another official later called them back and denied them access to attend lectures.
The student insisted her outfit was appropriate, noting that her trousers fully covered her legs and nothing about her dressing was indecent. She also complained that many students had already spent money on transportation to attend classes but were sent back over what she described as minor issues, including claims that some students were rejected because their sleeves were considered too short.
Responding to the incident, the management of Kaduna Polytechnic stated that the outfits worn by the affected students in the viral footage appeared moderate and appropriate. In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar for Information and Protocol, Mr. Godwin B. Ayegba, the institution said the students should not have been barred from attending their lectures based on their dressing as seen in the video.
The polytechnic added that although it maintains a dress code policy to promote decency and professionalism, enforcement must follow approved guidelines and should not be extreme or arbitrary. It confirmed that an investigation has begun to determine what happened and promised that appropriate measures would be taken to address any lapses and prevent a recurrence while ensuring students’ access to education is not hindered.
