Kidnapped UNILORIN Graduate Freed After ₦2.5 Million Ransom Payment

Kidnapped UNILORIN graduate Rhoda was freed after a ₦2.5 million ransom was raised through a crowdfunding campaign, highlighting both public relief and growing concerns about insecurity in Nigeria.

Rhoda, a graduate of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), who was kidnapped while traveling to Port Harcourt for her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assignment, has been released following the payment of a ₦2.5 million ransom.

Her release was confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) by a popular social media influencer who had earlier raised awareness about the incident. The influencer launched a crowdfunding campaign to gather the ransom after revealing the kidnappers’ demand for ₦2.5 million.

In less than 24 hours, the fundraiser successfully met its goal, and the influencer shared the news of Rhoda’s release:

“Happy to announce that Rhoda has been released and is safe now. Thank you all for your donations. Only God can reward your labor of love. Full details will come later. Let her rest and enjoy reunion with family.”

The announcement sparked a wave of gratitude and support online, with many commending the influencer’s efforts and expressing relief over Rhoda’s safe return.

Public Reactions:

@Ajayisanchez: “Thankfully, she is back home with her family. May Nigeria never happen to any of us and our families. Amen!”

@winn_media: “I respect you and the things you’ve managed to pull off here. I hope one day I can do half as much.”

@choy160: “It’s important for Rhoda to rest and enjoy being reunited with her family.”

@amourab: “Good job, bro. I just hope our government will address these security issues decisively. There must be consequences for these perpetrators.”

@TechbroWalter: “You did well. But Omo, be careful promoting ransom payments. The law ain’t smiling. But if it were my sister? Nna Omo, continue abeg.”

@sinnerisblessed: “See the zoo we call a country! Someone can’t even travel freely with all the hardship!!! Why does this country even exist?”

@Jaggarr: “Thank you for alerting the public. Hopefully, the police will investigate and see if anyone close to her is involved.”

@SirIce0007: “This is awesome! I’m in awe! Tinubu no go fit achieve this feat in 8 years. Thanks so much.”

Rhoda’s release is a relief to her family and the public, but the incident highlights the growing concerns about insecurity and the need for stronger measures to combat kidnapping in Nigeria.
