An influencer has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise ₦2.5 million for the release of Rhoda, a kidnapped UNILORIN graduate traveling for NYSC, sparking widespread reactions and debates on insecurity in Nigeria.

A popular social media influencer has initiated a crowdfunding campaign to raise ₦2.5 million for the release of Rhoda, a University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) graduate who was kidnapped en route to Port Harcourt for her NYSC program.
The influencer shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), posting an image of the victim alongside an urgent plea for public support, stating, “Rhoda was kidnapped on her way to Port Harcourt for NYSC. The kidnappers are demanding ₦2.5 million. I trust we can pull this off.”

The post has garnered widespread attention and mixed reactions online. While many offered assistance, others raised concerns about the implications of crowdfunding for ransom payments.
One user, @FindingKan, commented, “Isn’t this encouraging more kidnappings? This could set a dangerous precedent.” Another, @Desmuyee, expressed frustration over increasing insecurity, saying, “Kidnappers now wait for NYSC camps to open. 💔 This has to end.”
Other commenters criticized government inaction, with @__Priestt writing, “The government needs to address this security crisis. It’s getting worse.” Despite the debates, many rallied behind the campaign, urging swift action to secure Rhoda’s release.
The influencer’s initiative has amplified discussions on insecurity in Nigeria, particularly concerning the safety of NYSC participants.
