Kogi State Polytechnic Dismisses Officer Over Sexual Molestation, Demotes Deputy Registrar

Kogi State Polytechnic dismissed an officer for sexual molestation and demoted a deputy registrar for negligence, while promoting 572 staff members, as part of efforts to enforce discipline and uphold ethical standards.

Kogi State Polytechnic has dismissed a senior administrative officer, Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed, over sexual molestation allegations and demoted a deputy registrar, Mr. Audu Mathew, for negligence of duty, as part of efforts to enforce discipline and uphold ethical standards in the institution.

The decisions were made at the Polytechnic’s 72nd Regular Governing Council meeting, held on December 19, 2025. The council also terminated the appointment of Mrs. Funmilayo Afolabi, an Assistant Chief Executive Officer, for absconding from duty for nine months without authorization.

In a statement, the Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, said the disciplinary actions demonstrate the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct. The council also approved promotions for 572 staff members, including 11 Principal Lecturers elevated to Chief Lecturer.

The Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, praised the Governing Council for their commitment to the institution’s growth and governance. He highlighted achievements under the current administration, including timely release of students’ results and improved campus security.

The institution has also uncovered a result forgery syndicate, with one individual apprehended with forged documents. The council chairman, Barrister Sani Shaibu, emphasized that the institution won’t tolerate acts that undermine its credibility.

The Polytechnic has taken steps to strengthen discipline and transparency, with the council pledging continued support for the institution’s growth. The dismissed officer, Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed, was found guilty of sexual molestation, while Mr. Audu Mathew’s demotion was due to negligence in his duties.

The institution’s management is working to maintain academic standards and integrity, with plans to continue improving the polytechnic’s reputation.
