Pelumi Adewole, a lecturer at Kwara State University, was arraigned in a district court in Ilorin, Kwara State for allegedly sexually harassing students.

Adewole was arrested by the National Intelligence Agency on suspicion of criminal intimidation, sexual harassment, and exam fraud.
According to the prosecution, these crimes violated Articles sections 397 and 95 of the Penal Code Law and Section 3(320) of the Examination Malpractices Act Cap. E15 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which can be punished under the same law.
The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) of Kwara State is also a party to this case.
According to FIDA Chairman Grace Okoduwa, Adewole married in June 2021.
The Police reported that a petition dated October 15, 2021, was written by a student in the Department of Pure and Applied Sciences at KWASU, who complained about sexual harassment by the lecturer.
According to the police, the student claimed that at some point in September 2021, Adewole called and threatened her that if she refused to have sex with him, she would fail the upcoming exam.
According to reports, due to the defendant’s threats, the police instructed the student to play with him to obtain evidence.
“The lecturer thereafter lured the student into his bedroom around 8.30 pm on Taoheed Road, Basin area, Ilorin, where he gave her a new question paper and answer script of KWASU to rewrite her exam with a promise to have sexual intercourse with her till daybreak.
“The suspect was, however, apprehended in the process by detectives from the SIB, who were hiding at a location,” the FIR stated.
The lecturer pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Prosecutor Nasir Yusuf pleaded with the court to remand Adwal, saying that these crimes cannot be released on bail.
He pointed out that sexual harassment has become rampant in higher education institutions in the country.
But the chief defense attorney, A.J. Opalekunde, prayed that the court would grant his client bail on lenient terms, saying that the defendant would remain innocent until the court found guilty.
Magistrate Ibrahim Mohammed (Ibrahim Mohammed) allowed the defendant to bail 200,000 naira, with a similar amount of guarantor.
The case was adjourned until December 8, 2021, for retrial.
