The Rivers State Government has threatened to close private schools in the state that vacate before the approved date.

The threat was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Education, Sir Chidi Adiele.
The Permanent Secretary said the warning became necessary after learning that some private schools were planning to vacate for the 3rd term on 20 August 2021.
According to the statement “In the released calendar approved by His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike in August 2020, schools are to vacate for the third term 2020/2021 academic session on the 10th of September 2021. Thus, schools are to vacate on the approved date.”
The statement added, “For the avoidance of doubt, any private school that vacates before the approved closing date shall face appropriate sanctions and fines payable directly to the State government through the ICT Department.”
The state government warned private schools to strictly adhere to the academic calendar, adding that officials of the state ministry of Education shall be deployed to enforce the sanction on defaulting schools.
