A 53-year-old Federal Polytechnic, Bida lecturer, Abdulfatai Aiyede, collapsed and died while visiting a young woman in Minna after eating a meal, prompting police investigation and the arrest of the woman pending determination of the cause of death.


The Niger State Police Command confirmed the sudden death of Abdulfatai Aiyede, a 53-year-old lecturer from Federal Polytechnic, Bida, who collapsed while visiting a young woman in Minna. The incident occurred on January 27, 2026, sparking public concern and police investigation.
Aiyede visited 25-year-old nursing student Stella Joseph at her residence on Niteco Road, Tunga. During the visit, Stella allegedly served him spaghetti and egg. Shortly after eating, Aiyede convulsed and collapsed, causing panic.
He was rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, for urgent medical attention, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The cause of death remains unclear, pending medical examination.
Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed Stella’s arrest in connection with the incident. Her arrest is part of ongoing investigations and doesn’t imply guilt.
The police spokesperson added that Aiyede’s body is undergoing examination to determine the exact cause of death. Families have been contacted, and further updates will be provided as findings emerge.
