MAPOLY management has dissolved its 2023/2024 Student Union Executives amid protests over delayed results and increased tuition fees, with students and NANS planning further demonstrations to demand administrative reforms and fee reductions.

The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has dissolved the 2023/2024 Students Union Executives following protests by students over delayed results and increased tuition fees.
During an emergency meeting on Tuesday, the institution announced the dissolution, citing the expiration of the union executives’ tenure, as the current session is in its first semester. A statement signed by the school’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, directed the former executives to cease presenting themselves as representatives of the student body.
The protests, which began on Monday, saw students—many of whom graduated between 2022 and 2025—block the institution’s main gate, preventing access to academic and non-academic staff. Holding placards with messages such as “We Want Our Results Now!” and “Mobilise Us Now For NYSC,” they demanded the release of their long-delayed results and resolution of the tuition fee hikes.
In response, the management announced the indefinite closure of the polytechnic to safeguard lives and property.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun JCC expressed strong dissatisfaction with the leadership of the institution’s rector, Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso, accusing him of poor administrative practices that have caused undue delays in results and frustration among students.
NANS Ogun JCC Chairman, Adeyanju Francis, criticized Dr. Jolaoso’s tenure, stating, “His academic brilliance has not translated into effective leadership. His failure to manage the institution has jeopardized the future of countless students.”
NANS, in collaboration with the dissolved student union, announced plans for a large-scale protest on Wednesday, January 14, 2025, at both the school gate and the Ogun State Government House. They are demanding the immediate release of pending results, a halt to tuition hikes, and reforms in the institution’s administration.
The student body warned that if the tuition issue escalates to a statewide protest, Dr. Jolaoso would be held accountable for the consequences, stating, “His stone-heartedness leaves us no choice but to act in the collective interest of all Nigerian students in Ogun State.”
