Chinonso Ikegwu, a distinguished Nigerian lawyer, graduated with double first-class honors, earning multiple scholarships for her master’s studies in the UK and passing the New York State Bar exam.


Chinonso Ikegwu, a brilliant Nigerian lady, has achieved remarkable success by graduating as a lawyer with double first-class honors and securing multiple scholarships to pursue her master’s degree in the United Kingdom.
Chinonso began her academic journey at Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti, Nigeria, where she obtained her LL.B with first-class honors.
She then continued to the Nigerian Law School, graduating with a first-class grade and being called to the bar as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Her outstanding academic performance earned her multiple scholarship offers from prestigious institutions in the UK.
Among the universities that offered her scholarships were the University of Reading, Queen Mary University of London, the University of Georgia, the University of Cambridge, Newnham College at Cambridge University, and the New York University School of Law.
Chinonso chose to pursue her Master of Laws (LLM) at the New York University School of Law, where she was one of the three Nigerians admitted in 2022.
She also received the Dean’s Graduate Award scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year, a merit-based award given to full-time master’s students who have demonstrated significant academic promise or achievement in their fields.
Expressing her gratitude, Chinonso acknowledged the support of her family, friends, mentors, recommenders, and colleagues, who have continuously inspired and encouraged her throughout her journey.
Chinonso’s achievements did not stop there. She recently passed the New York State Bar exam, an accomplishment she described on LinkedIn as a significant milestone in her legal career.
She expressed her honor in joining the esteemed community of legal professionals in the United Kingdom and shared her excitement about the new chapter in her career, calling it a dream come true to be called to the bar in both Nigeria and New York.
