A Bayero University Kano student, Shafiu Auwal Ibrahim, who mysteriously disappeared in 2021, has been found alive after four years in Kaduna, where he had been cared for by a cleric after being discovered in a mentally unstable state, leading to an emotional reunion with his grateful family.

A student of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), identified as Shafiu Auwal Ibrahim, who vanished without a trace four years ago, has been miraculously found alive in Kaduna State.
Disappearance in 2021
In 2021, Shafiu, a young man from the Janbulo area of Kano, suddenly went missing under mysterious circumstances. His disappearance left his family, friends, and the entire university community in shock. For years, they searched tirelessly—visiting hospitals, police stations, and even spiritual centers—hoping for any clue about his fate.
Despite numerous efforts and public appeals, no one could provide any credible information on his whereabouts. Many feared the worst, but his parents refused to give up hope, holding on to faith that their son was still alive somewhere.
Found Living With a Cleric
After four long years of uncertainty, a breakthrough finally came when reports surfaced that Shafiu had been found living in a remote village in Kaduna. According to family sources, an Islamic cleric had taken him in years earlier after finding him wandering in a mentally unstable condition. The cleric, moved by compassion, reportedly cared for him and ensured his wellbeing over the years.
The family was informed of his discovery through social media reports and community contacts. Upon verification, relatives quickly traveled to Kaduna, where they confirmed that the man was indeed their long-lost son.
Family’s Reaction and Reunion
The emotional reunion was filled with tears of joy and disbelief. After years of endless prayers and sleepless nights, the family finally embraced their son again. Although his full recovery details have not been made public, sources close to the family said Shafiu appeared calm, healthy, and responsive.
His parents expressed profound gratitude to God and thanked the cleric who cared for him, describing the man as an “angel in human form.” They also called on the public to keep supporting missing-persons cases, emphasizing that hope should never be lost.
Shafiu has since returned home to Kano, where he is reportedly receiving medical and psychological evaluation to help him reintegrate into normal life.
