A Private School in Port Harcourt faces backlash from the public over its decision to take its students on an excursion to a public school in a bid to expose students to different educational environments.

The decision by a private school in Port Harcourt to take its students to a public school has sparked mixed reactions. The excursion was intended to expose students to different educational environments.
Alex Onyia, an education enthusiast known as @winexviv on X, revealed that the students from Charles Dale Memorial School spent a day at Igwuruta Community Secondary School.
This initiative aimed to motivate and broaden the perspectives of the private school students.

According to Onyia, the students participated in regular classes and shared facilities with the public school students. The second phase of the exercise will involve students from the public school visiting Charles Dale Memorial School.
Onyia wrote, “Charles Dale Memorial School sent their students to Igwuruta Community Secondary School to experience what education looks like in a public school in Port Harcourt. They had classes together and witnessed the poor state of public schools. This exposure is beneficial as it highlights the harsh reality in Nigerian public schools.”

However, the excursion received mixed responses. Some viewed it as degrading to the public school students.
AjeboDanny questioned, “Are they also going to send the students of Igwuruta to Charles Dale to experience the good state of a private school?”
Ugodaniel_ remarked, “It’s good to have a sense of reality you’re not in touch with. It helps balance one’s view of life.”
HarrisonJNIOR asked, “How do they want the kids in the public school to feel now? Inferior? Whose idea was this?”
LoveNemesisX commented, “So when are they inviting the poor kids to the rich school to learn how one can enjoy luxury without stress and to also know that cutting grass with a cutlass every Thursday is not the only way to build character?”
Akwaugonnaya_ expressed strong disapproval, “This is not good. This act should be condemned. Public schools should not be used as excursion sites for elite kids. This is so wrong. You never considered the mental health of the public school students. This act could lower their self-esteem and make them question their existence or their parents’ inability to level up with the elites.”
