A mother and daughter from Laurens, South Carolina celebrates their accomplishments as they graduate together with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from the University of South Carolina.

Tangenicka and Chyna Williams, a mother-daughter pair from Laurens, South Carolina, have accomplished an extraordinary feat by graduating together with Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees from the University of South Carolina.
Their journey began years ago when Tangenicka completed her licensed practical nurse program at Greenville Technical College while Chyna was just 6 months old.
Tangenicka recalls the special moment when, during Christmas, she placed her nursing hat on Chyna’s head, symbolizing her future path in nursing.
Despite initially not envisioning herself in the nursing profession, Chyna surprised her mother during her senior year of high school by expressing her desire to follow in Tangenicka’s footsteps.
Tangenicka, believing nursing to be a gift, had never pressured her daughter into the field but was overjoyed by Chyna’s decision.
Their bond strengthened by mutual admiration and a shared passion for helping others, Tangenicka and Chyna embarked on their nursing education journeys.
Tangenicka, drawing from her humble beginnings and personal experiences, instilled in Chyna the importance of compassion and resilience in the medical field.
Their path to earning BSN degrees was not without challenges, but their determination and dedication prevailed. Tangenicka, with 24 years of experience as assistant director of nursing, joined Chyna at the University of South Carolina Upstate after Chyna’s completion of her program at Greenville Technical College in 2023.
Both women, balancing their studies with demanding careers in the medical field, embody the essence of dedication and perseverance.
As they celebrate their joint success, Tangenicka and Chyna stand as a testament to the power of familial support and the pursuit of shared dreams.
