Mother Demands Mass Protest Against WAEC, Claims Students Took Exams at Midnight

A Nigerian mother has called for a nationwide protest against WAEC, claiming poor exam logistics—especially alleged midnight exam sessions—led to widespread student failure in English and Math, sparking mixed reactions online and renewed debate over exam integrity and student performance.

A Nigerian mother has sparked national debate after calling for a mass protest against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), alleging that her child failed English due to exams being held late into the night.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the woman voiced her anger and urged other mothers across Nigeria to take action. She claimed that many students began their exams in the afternoon and were still writing as late as 11 PM, calling the process highly irregular and unfair.

She said,

“Mothers, please come out. WAEC is playing with our children’s future. Most of them failed Maths and English. Is this normal? Exams started by noon and went on till midnight. This isn’t how things should be done.”

She further accused WAEC of poor organization, asserting that the exam schedule and logistics contributed to widespread failure in key subjects like English and Mathematics.

The video quickly gained attention, with Nigerians reacting both in support and opposition:

  • @trustfund23: “Your child didn’t study, just dancing Amapiano on TikTok.”
  • @1Emma001: “WAEC already denied holding any midnight exams.”
  • @ZeeHakeem: “My sibling did just fine in English and Math.”
  • @xybox: “WAEC’s logistics failed. Let them try again with GCE.”
  • @Jaybraj1: “I heard WAEC promised to add marks due to the chaos.”

While the truth behind the timing of the exams remains unclear, the mother’s passionate plea has ignited conversations around educational standards, exam integrity, and the responsibilities of both students and institutions.
