NYSC Teachers in Taraba State to Receive Extra N85,000 Allowance

Cursory: The Taraba State government will provide financial support to NYSC members. They will receive a one-time medical allowance of N50,000, an accommodation allowance of N25,000 per term, and a monthly support of N10,000. This is due to increased school enrollments resulting from free basic education initiatives. Additionally, the Federal Government pays NYSC members a monthly allowance of N33,000 in line with the national minimum wage.

The Taraba State government has declared its intention to offer financial support to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state. Zainab Usman, the Taraba State Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, made this announcement in a statement released on Sunday.

She clarified that this initiative includes a one-time medical allowance of N50,000, which will be provided to NYSC members assigned to schools.

Furthermore, she mentioned that the state governor has granted additional allowances to NYSC members. This includes an accommodation allowance of N25,000 per term and a monthly support of N10,000 from the state government.

She attributed the governor’s decision to the significant rise in school enrollments, which occurred following the government’s announcement of free basic education, provision of uniforms, and other educational materials.

She emphasized the need for prompt action due to the recent surge in new student enrollments in primary and secondary schools within the past ten working days.

In her words: “The surge in new enrollments witnessed in our primary and secondary schools over the past ten working days has necessitated immediate action,”

At present, the Federal Government provides National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members with a monthly allowance of N33,000, in accordance with the national minimum wage, which was endorsed into law by President Buhari on April 18, 2019.

It’s worth noting that there is an anticipation among Nigerian workers for a potential revision of the current minimum wage, especially in light of the recent removal of fuel subsidies in the country.
