Nigerian Engineer Graduates as Best in FUNAAB with 4.83 CGPA, Wins Scholarship to Canada

Oladimeji Babatunde Azeez, the best graduating student from FUNAAB’s College of Engineering with a 4.83 CGPA, earned a first-class degree, secured a master’s scholarship to the University of Saskatchewan, and credits his success to resilience, mentorship, and determination.

Oladimeji Babatunde Azeez, a remarkable Nigerian scholar, has emerged as the best graduating student from the College of Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). He achieved an impressive 4.83 cumulative grade point average (CGPA), earning a first-class degree in Engineering.

Oladimeji’s academic excellence secured him a prestigious scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Biological Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. In addition, he was awarded the highly coveted 75th CGPS Recruitment Scholarship, a recognition given to incoming graduate students with outstanding research potential. This honor was based on the impactful research he conducted during his National Service Year.

In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Oladimeji expressed gratitude for his academic journey, highlighting how his undergraduate studies provided a solid foundation for merging theoretical knowledge with practical application. Reflecting on his achievement, he described it as a dream come true, especially considering the financial challenges he faced in 2023, which made pursuing graduate studies seem unattainable at the time.

His breakthrough came when he received The Michael Taiwo Scholarship, which allowed him to take the GRE exam in 2024. Through determination and persistence, Oladimeji cold-emailed his future supervisor, successfully securing an opportunity to further his education and research.

Oladimeji attributes his success to the unwavering support of his mentors, including Dr. Michael Taiwo, as well as his family and friends. He acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead but expressed optimism and confidence in navigating this new chapter of his life.

To aspiring scholars, he offered valuable advice: “Focus on each step while keeping the future in mind. That way, the future won’t scare you.” He also emphasized the importance of courage and resilience, echoing the words of his mentor, Dr. Taiwo.
