Olumide Odeyemi, a Nigerian engineer, secured the fully funded Global Korea Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Electrical and Information Engineering at SeoulTech, South Korea, after excelling academically and strategically navigating the scholarship application process.

Seoul, South Korea – Olumide Odeyemi, a Nigerian engineer and First Class graduate of the University of Ilorin, has been awarded the prestigious Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) to pursue a Master’s degree in Electrical and Information Engineering at Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech). The scholarship, funded by the Korean government, covers full tuition, round-trip airfare, monthly living stipends, and health insurance.
Driven by a strong interest in technology and innovation, Odeyemi developed a passion for communications engineering during his undergraduate years, leading him to specialize in telecommunications. Determined to expand his expertise in the field, he began applying for international scholarships in 2023 and was awarded both the GKS and Türkiye Burslari Scholarship in 2024. He ultimately chose to pursue his studies in South Korea, citing the country’s technological advancement as a motivating factor.
The Global Korea Scholarship also includes a year-long Korean language program for recipients who do not meet the language requirement, fully funded as part of the scholarship package. This comprehensive support ensures a smooth academic and cultural transition for international students like Odeyemi.
Odeyemi’s impressive academic record and active engagement in leadership and volunteer roles helped strengthen his application. He also strategically focused on scholarship opportunities that accepted proof of English proficiency from Nigerian institutions, due to financial constraints preventing him from taking standardized tests such as the GRE.
Reflecting on his journey, Odeyemi encourages prospective applicants to start early, conduct thorough research, and seek guidance from past scholars. He credits his success to intentional planning, mentorship, and perseverance. Now at SeoulTech, he is focused on specializing in wireless communications and aims to contribute to global technological advancement and foster stronger ties between Nigeria and South Korea.
