After four years of setbacks and rejections, Nigerian graduate Ujah Godswill secured a scholarship to study in the US, crediting resilience, support networks, continuous growth, and faith for his success.

After four years of persistent efforts and repeated rejections, a determined Nigerian man, Ujah Godswill, has finally won a scholarship to study in the United States.
Godswill, who graduated with a stellar 4.72 First-Class GPA in Crop Production and Soil Science from Ladoke Akintola University of Science and Technology (LAUTECH), shared his inspiring journey on LinkedIn. He recounted the struggles he faced—numerous unsuccessful applications, cold emails, shortlisting without final selection, and disappointing interviews—all of which made him question his dream of pursuing graduate studies.
Despite these setbacks, he remained resilient and never gave up. His persistence was finally rewarded when he received a Graduate Research Assistantship to study for a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science at Kentucky State University in the United States.
Reflecting on his journey, Godswill shared key lessons he learned:
• Rejection does not define your worth—it’s just part of the process.
• Build a strong support network—surround yourself with people who believe in you and provide guidance.
• Keep growing and improving—don’t pause life while waiting for opportunities.
• Timing matters—being qualified is not always enough; sometimes, success comes when you least expect it.
• Faith is essential—he credited divine support as a crucial factor in his journey.
Expressing gratitude, Godswill thanked his parents for their unwavering belief in him, his siblings for their prayers, his LAUTECH lecturers for their mentorship, and his friends, church members, and others who helped him with applications, visa processes, and mock interviews.
To those facing similar struggles, he offered words of encouragement: “Your dreams are valid. Keep going; your success is closer than you think.”
