Nigerian students studying in Russia under a government scholarship say they have been left stranded without stipends since 2024 and are urging Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene.

Nigerian students studying in Russia under a bilateral education programme have voiced serious concerns about their welfare, accusing the government of abandoning them.
The affected students, many of whom are enrolled in courses such as medicine and engineering, revealed that they have not received their monthly stipends since September 2024. This prolonged delay, they say, has left them struggling financially and unable to meet basic living expenses.
Due to the hardship, several students reportedly resort to taking up low-paying, physically demanding jobs, including construction work, just to survive in a foreign country.
The students have called on Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene, appealing for the immediate release of their allowances and improved support from the government.
In a joint statement, they explained that despite being sent abroad under an official agreement between Nigeria and Russia, they now feel neglected and left to fend for themselves, a situation they say has pushed many into extreme financial difficulty.
