A 29-year-old Nigerian woman, Olajide Esther Iyanuoluwa, was arrested in India after allegedly using a student visa as cover to smuggle cocaine worth about ₹1.2 crore (₦195 million) hidden inside bread loaves while traveling from Mumbai to Bengaluru.

A 29 Year-old Nigerian woman, Olajide Esther Iyanuoluwa, was arrested in India for allegedly hiding cocaine worth ₹1.2 crore (approx. N195m) in bread loaves. She was traveling from Mumbai to Bengaluru by private bus when authorities intercepted her. The cocaine was concealed in holes drilled into the bread, packed with other food items in her backpack.
Olajide entered India on a student visa last year but didn’t enroll in any school. Instead, she allegedly engaged in drug trafficking, sourcing cocaine from a male associate in Mumbai and planning to deliver it to another Nigerian in Bengaluru. The intended recipient was also arrested and later deported.
The arrest highlights the evolving tactics of drug traffickers, using everyday items like food to evade detection. The Central Crime Branch (CCB) is investigating to identify other associates involved in the racket. Olajide is currently in judicial custody, and procedures to deport her to Nigeria have been initiated.
The CCB launched a discreet operation after receiving intel that Olajide was traveling by private bus from Mumbai to Bengaluru. A search of her backpack revealed loaves of bread with holes drilled inside, where the cocaine was carefully hidden among other food items.
The case reflects a worrying trend where smugglers increasingly use everyday food items to move narcotics undetected. Authorities are warning that strict action will be taken against anyone caught trafficking drugs.
