The family of Ross Ogbeinde, a Nigerian student who died suddenly in the UK weeks before his graduation, is seeking £20,000 through GoFundMe to cover burial expenses and support his widow and three children.

The family of Ross Ogbeinde, a Nigerian international student at the University of South Wales, is seeking financial assistance following his sudden death on December 29, 2024, just weeks before his scheduled graduation in January 2025.
Ogbeinde, originally from Benin City, Edo State, resided in Pontypridd, South Wales, with his wife, Benedicta, and their three children. According to a statement on a GoFundMe campaign created by his wife, Ogbeinde had no prior health issues and collapsed unexpectedly, passing away before medical help could arrive.
The tragedy struck shortly after he had brought his children to the UK to join him. His widow now faces the dual challenge of organizing his burial and supporting their young family. The GoFundMe campaign aims to raise £20,000 to cover burial expenses and help the family settle.
As of January 5, 2025, the campaign had raised £380 from 14 donors, representing only 2% of the target.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by Nigerians abroad and underscores the recent rise in sudden deaths among the Nigerian diaspora in the UK.
GoFundMe remains a vital platform for raising funds for emergencies and personal causes, providing an avenue for individuals to seek support during difficult times.
