Cursory: Iyiola Oladunjoye, a Nigerian Microbiology graduate from the University of Ilorin, achieved an impressive 4.99 GPA, earning first-class honors despite facing financial difficulties.


An outstanding Nigerian individual named Iyiola Oladunjoye managed to significantly elevate his grade point average from 3.67 during his first year to an impressive 4.99 by the time he graduated from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
This remarkable academic achievement resulted in him graduating with first-class honors in Microbiology. His exceptional performance also led to the award of a full master’s scholarship to five prestigious European universities.
Iyiola Oladunjoye successfully obtained his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology with an outstanding cumulative grade point average of 4.52 out of a possible 5.00.
However, his academic journey was marked by a challenging event when he tragically lost his father just days before his first-year examination. This unfortunate incident deeply discouraged him, and he contemplated the possibility of discontinuing his education due to financial difficulties, which adversely affected his grades in the second semester of his first year.
With unwavering determination, Iyiola was resolute in his goal to honor his late father’s memory. He devoted increased attention to his studies, resulting in him maintaining a first-class academic performance throughout his university journey.
Following his graduation from the University of Ilorin, Iyiola achieved another significant milestone when he was granted the Erasmus scholarship and became a Joint Master’s student in the Leading International Vaccinology Education (LIVE) program. This scholarship was fully sponsored by the European Union.
Iyiola proudly shared his remarkable achievement of securing a fully-funded scholarship on his LinkedIn profile. He explained that the Master LIVE program is a collaborative initiative involving five prestigious European universities, with each of them conferring a master’s degree upon completion of the program.
Furthermore, the LIVE program offers an advanced curriculum encompassing Immunology, infection, and Vaccinology. It also covers areas such as legislation, health policy, and humanities related to vaccinology.
Iyiola is set to pursue his master’s program at several esteemed institutions, including Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Barcelona, University of Antwerp, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, and Université Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne.
He explained that despite receiving three fully-funded Ph.D. offers in the United States, he made the decision to join the Master LIVE program. This choice was driven by his profound interest in combating antimicrobial resistance by developing vaccine solutions for priority-resistant pathogens.
Iyiola expressed his aspiration to gain comprehensive knowledge and education dedicated to addressing antimicrobial resistance and enhancing Africa’s vaccine manufacturing capacity, as his passion lies in becoming a Vaccinologist.
