A Nigerian university student was reportedly left paralyzed after he refused to hand over his phone number to an alleged cultist, who allegedly attacked him in retaliation.

A tragic incident has been reported at a Nigerian university where a female student was allegedly assaulted by a suspected cultist after she refused to give him her phone number, resulting in a severe spinal injury that has left her unable to walk.
The account was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by a user known as @VivianRora, who identified the victim as her cousin. According to her, the attack followed the student’s refusal to share her contact information with the alleged cultist.
“My cousin, a student of a Nigerian institution, was brutally attacked by cultists. They broke her spine, and since that day, she hasn’t been able to stand,” she wrote.
“Her life changed forever. And all this happened because she refused to give them her number. I detest cultism and cultists!”
The post quickly gained traction online, sparking outrage and a wave of emotional reactions from other users who condemned the attack and the broader issue of cult-related violence on campuses.
Reactions from X Users:
- @Victor_Gameboy: “Still has nothing to do with poor parenting. Don’t blame the parents for the sins of the children. One day, you’ll have kids.”
- @Sassiepresh: “I’ve had my fair share of attacks and harassment from cultists. I hate them.”
- @murkiiis: “They collect numbers just to assert dominance. They might not even contact you. As a lady, just give them a fake one.”
- @AlliOlabisi5: “Anyone who studied at Ogun Poly or lived in Abeokuta between 1993–1998 will relate. Students were murdered or mutilated due to cultism. A girl’s womb was ripped out just for refusing a cultist’s advances.”
- @Princes51013171: “This may sound controversial, but sometimes it’s about survival. In a lawless place, just give them the number. Pick your battles.”
- @tha_girrl: “A friend of mine just gives her number upfront when approached, ends the convo fast. It’s sad, but some men are terrifying.”
The horrifying case has reignited discussions on cultism, campus safety, and the dangers women face when asserting boundaries. As of now, there are no confirmed updates from law enforcement or the university involved.
