Twin brothers Matthew and Matthias Busoye, who graduated as the best students from the University of Ibadan’s Faculty of Technology, credited their academic success to their mother’s unwavering sacrifice and strength after raising four children alone following their father’s death when they were 12.

Twin brothers, Matthew and Matthias Busoye, who graduated as the best students from the Faculty of Technology at the University of Ibadan, have dedicated their success to their mother’s resilience and sacrifice after the loss of their father when they were just 12 years old.
Speaking at the faculty’s induction ceremony, Matthew recalled the heartbreaking moment they learned of their father’s death and how their mother became a single parent to four children—two in university and two in secondary school—without financial support or a clear path forward.
In a speech shared on X.com, Matthew recounted how their mother turned down a relative’s offer to take the children in, choosing instead to keep them together despite hardship. “If all we have is garri, we’ll drink it together,” she had said, a moment he described as life-changing.
He praised her for enduring sleepless nights, taking loans, and ensuring they never had to beg. “My mum did more ‘TDBs’ calculating debts than I did in all my years at UI,” he said. Her strength, he emphasized, was a defining factor in their journey.
Matthias also honored their late father, Mr. Moroof Ganiyu, and echoed gratitude to their mother, noting how her decisions helped shape their path to success.
Graduating with identical first-class degrees and a CGPA of 3.94 from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, the twins were recognized as the best students in their department and the entire Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Their story stands as a powerful tribute to perseverance, family unity, and the far-reaching impact of a mother’s love.
