Eziamaka Nwakile, a brilliant Nigerian woman, has achieved remarkable success in the United Kingdom, earning a master’s degree with distinction and securing a lecturer position at Coventry University.
Eziamaka’s academic journey began at Girne American University in Dubai, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering in 2014. Determined to advance her education, she enrolled in a master’s program in Data Science and Computational Intelligence at Coventry University in 2022, graduating with distinction the following year.
Her journey was not without challenges. Upon arriving in the UK during Storm Eunice, one of the worst storms in decades, she faced transportation difficulties and had to spend the night in a hotel due to blocked bank cards. Despite a rocky start, she quickly adapted to the rigorous academic environment.
One of the biggest hurdles was Coventry University’s block teaching system, where entire modules were completed in just one week of intensive six-hour sessions. Additionally, she faced discouragement from individuals who doubted her ability to succeed in the demanding program. Rather than giving in, she used their doubts as motivation and excelled.
“In a twist of events, I put in extra effort and graduated with a distinction! To those who doubted me—thank you! Your words pushed me to work harder,” she shared on LinkedIn.
Beyond academics, Eziamaka took on leadership roles, serving as the Education Rep Chair for the Faculty of Computing, Mathematics, and Data Science. She also worked as a Student Ambassador, balancing her responsibilities alongside her studies.
Her dedication paid off when, just two months after graduation, she secured a lecturer position at Coventry University. After a rigorous interview process that lasted longer than expected, she was officially offered the role.
In another major achievement, her master’s dissertation was published as a chapter in a book on Springer, a significant milestone in her academic career.
“From reading other people’s research to having my own work published alongside contributions from professors—exciting times indeed!” she said.
Eziamaka expressed gratitude to her parents, siblings, and academic advisor, who not only supervised her dissertation but also guided her transition from student to lecturer.
Reflecting on her journey, she described it as both challenging and rewarding, emphasizing her passion for mentoring students, advancing in academia, and making meaningful contributions to her field.
