Esther Fadumiye, an 18-year-old Nigerian-American, graduated as valedictorian of Cardinal Spelman High School with a perfect 4.00 GPA and perfect attendance, earning admission to Harvard University to study Physical Sciences, all while inspiring others through her discipline, humility, and family-driven values.
UNITED STATES – Esther Fadumiye, an outstanding 18-year-old Nigerian-American student, has achieved a rare academic feat by graduating as the valedictorian of Cardinal Spelman High School in the U.S., boasting a perfect 4.00 GPA, and is now headed to Harvard University to pursue a degree in Physical Sciences.
Esther achieved a stellar GPA of 100.330, the highest in her graduating class, earning her top honors and the prestigious valedictorian title. Alongside her academic excellence, she was also recognized for perfect attendance, having never missed a day of school since kindergarten.
“My parents are both immigrants, so they taught me drive, perseverance, and hard work. We’ve got to keep at it every day,” Esther said in her speech.
While Esther humbly noted that anyone could achieve what she did with dedication, her work ethic, discipline, and gratitude stood out.
“I’m not better than anyone else. Everyone could do what I did. I’m taking it all in, just living in the moment… but there’s always stuff to do,” she added.
At her graduation ceremony, Esther gave thanks to her parents and God, stating:
“I’m standing here today because God decided that I can. It’s only because of His grace that I’m able to say this: Hey guys, I’m going to Harvard. This is just the beginning. You will see more of me.”
Her mother, Doreen Fadumiye, a registered nurse, expressed immense pride but no surprise at her daughter’s achievement, emphasizing the family’s collective effort and late nights supporting Esther through school projects.
“Hard work pays off. I was expecting it. She stayed up and studied hard, and we stayed up with her,” Doreen said.
According to Kyle O’Donnell, Assistant Principal at Cardinal Spelman High, Esther’s discipline and consistency make her a role model.
“The sky is the limit for Esther. Once she puts her mind to something, it’s unbelievable. She’s just a great kid,” he remarked.
Outside the classroom, Esther lives a modest lifestyle. She does not own a cellphone or use social media, preferring face-to-face communication. She enjoys Korean dramas, volleyball with friends, and took part in student government and other extracurricular activities.
“I never had a cellphone, because I just chose not to. I didn’t see the point. I’d rather talk to people in person,” Esther shared.
Now preparing for her next chapter at Harvard University, Esther hopes her story inspires others to pursue excellence regardless of background.
