Cursory:MIVA Open University, Nigeria’s first online university has been granted the license to operate as an open university by NUC. Sim Shagaya, founder of uLesson App said, expressing delight over the development while promising to go beyond ground in ensuring they stand out in a positive way and benefit the students a d the country. He also listed out available courses while showing gratitude to the NUC.


The federal government’s National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted MIVA Open University, Nigeria’s first online higher education school, a license to function as an open university.
On the advice of NUC, the federal executive council granted MIVA an open distance eLearning license, allowing the institution to transfer all of its K–12 (kindergarten–grade 12) knowledge to the tertiary sector.
“It is with a great sense of responsibility and excitement that I would like to share that MIVA open university part of the uLesson Group has been granted an online university license,” Sim Shagaya, founder of uLesson App said, expressing delight over the development.
“We have dreamed of this day for four years since the very founding of uLesson.
“Our entry into the tertiary segment comes as at a time when the very definition of a university is changing and the demand for effective affordable tertiary education is as acute as ever,” he said.
He continued by saying that MIVA Open University would push the envelope in terms of innovation, cost, effectiveness, and convenience.
“We will begin by offering degrees in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Business Management, Public Policy and Administration, Data Science and Cybersecurity,” he said.
“And we will expand rapidly into other degree areas including nursing and law and leverage any and every technological tool that will allow us to offer more and more to learners.
“I really should thank the National Universities Commission for being both rigorous and willing to work with us to step boldly into the future.”
