Eight academic programmes presented by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) for accreditation in October/November 2025, have secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The result, released by the NUC in a letter dated 7th April 2026, showed that all the programmes met the required academic standards prescribed by the regulatory body.
Four of the accredited programmes are newly introduced courses. They include Agribusiness, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Industrial Arts, and Criminology and Security Studies.
The other existing four programmes granted full accreditation status are Human Anatomy, Food Science and Technology, Primary Education, and Early Childhood Education.
The full accreditation status means that the university is authorized to continue awarding degrees in the programmes for the next five years before they become due for another round of accreditation.
Reacting to the development, the University’s Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Anthony Attama described the outcome as a significant endorsement of the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, quality teaching, and improved learning facilities.
Prof. Attama noted that the successful accreditation exercise reflects the commitment of the University administration, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, to investment in infrastructure, staff development, research, and curriculum implementation in line with global best practices.
“The accreditation succeeded because the departments received the necessary support from the Vice-Chancellor”, Prof. Attama said.
He said that the accreditation success would further strengthen public confidence in the quality of education delivered at the University of Nigeria and enhance opportunities for students enrolled in the programmes.
Accreditation exercise by the National Universities Commission is aimed at assessing the quality of academic programmes in Nigerian universities to ensure compliance with approved minimum academic standards.
