Nurses at Ogun State Hospital protested after an alleged assault on a student nurse by a consultant surgeon, demanding justice and government action, citing violations of public service rules.

Nurses at Ogun State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, staged a protest on Thursday following the alleged assault of a final-year student nurse by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Nurudeen Adekunle.
Led by the state Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Adejoke Bello, the nurses, joined by colleagues from across the state, demanded justice for the victim, carrying placards calling for an end to nurse bullying.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 24, when Adekunle allegedly slapped the nurse in the theatre. Despite efforts to seek government intervention, no satisfactory action was taken, prompting the peaceful protest. Bello emphasized that such misconduct violates public service rules and called for Adekunle to be held accountable.
The hospital management and government have been notified, with the nurses giving a four-hour ultimatum for a response. Hospital officials, including Dr. Olayinka Elemide, confirmed that the matter is being addressed.
