Ogun State Polytechnic Students Protest After Colleague was Killed in a Hit-and-Run

Students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State, have taken to the street of their school to stage a protest after their colleague was allegedly killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State, have protested the alleged killing of their peer, Idowu Pelumi David, by a hit-and-run driver.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday, July 8, 2024, near the NYSC Camp, igniting outrage and calls for justice. Idowu Pelumi David, a first-year Public Administration student, was reportedly struck by a hit-and-run vehicle.

Carrying placards with various messages, the students accused a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) staff member of being responsible for David’s death.

In a protest letter to the Ogun State Police Command, the students expressed their sorrow and demanded that the perpetrator be held accountable. They claimed there was an attempted cover-up and urged a thorough investigation by the police.

Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu, represented by Operations Manager Fergus, assured the students that an investigation was in progress. The incident has highlighted issues of road safety and accountability, prompting the student body to insist on swift action and transparency.

Members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) from Gateway Polytechnic have pledged to continue their peaceful protests until justice is achieved.
