The tragic death of a student, Monday Ariyo, after allegedly receiving 164 lashes from a teacher at Obada Grammar School in Imeko Afon, Ogun State, has sparked widespread outrage.
The incident reportedly began when Ariyo questioned a teacher’s instruction not to break a classroom dustbin, leading the principal to allegedly order his punishment.
Ariyo collapsed after the severe flogging and later died despite being rushed to the hospital.
A video online shows his body being placed in an ambulance at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta.
Social media activist @justadetoun criticized plans for a rushed burial and called for a thorough investigation, warning authorities to ensure justice is served.
