Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju awarded ₦8 million to Nigerian Law School’s top graduates, Oluwabusayo Ifonlaja and Maryam Abiodun Lawal, for their exceptional academic achievements, highlighting growing recognition for educational excellence in Nigeria.

Two exceptional graduates of the Nigerian Law School have received a combined cash reward of ₦8 million from prominent human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, in recognition of their remarkable academic accomplishments.
Mr. Oluwabusayo Ifonlaja Esq., who made history by receiving 18 academic awards, was named the best graduating student of the 2025 session. For his outstanding performance, he was awarded ₦5 million by Adeyanju’s law firm.
Likewise, Miss Maryam Abiodun Lawal Esq., who earned eight academic awards and emerged as the second-best graduating student as well as the best female student, received ₦3 million from the firm.
The awards were presented at the law firm’s Abuja office on Friday, July 11, when the two scholars visited in person. Photos and videos of the presentation were shared by Adeyanju on his official Facebook page.
“We received in our office earlier today Mr. Oluwabusayo Ifonlaja Esq… and Miss Maryam Abiodun Lawal Esq., second-best graduating student and the best graduating female student,” Adeyanju wrote.
“Our firm awarded Oluwabusayo Ifonlaja ₦5,000,000, while Maryam Abiodun Lawal received ₦3,000,000. Their extraordinary achievements are a testament to the power of diligence, discipline, and determination.”
Both Ifonlaja and Lawal are alumni of Nile University of Nigeria, where they also maintained outstanding academic records before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School.
This gesture adds to the growing list of private and public recognitions of academic excellence across Nigeria. In similar instances:
- Isioma Sybil Nwosu, LASU’s best graduating student (CGPA 4.93), received ₦10 million from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
- Chizoba Ejiofor, the best graduating student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) with a CGPA of 4.98, secured a Commonwealth Scholarship worth over £33,000 for postgraduate studies abroad.
These developments continue to emphasize the increasing value being placed on academic excellence and the support for young Nigerian scholars from both private citizens and government officials.
