Parents repeatedly slap teacher after he allegedly hit their child

Parents confronted and repeatedly slapped a teacher at an Abuja school after he allegedly hit their child, sparking widespread online debate about discipline and the roles of teachers and parents.

A tense altercation reportedly unfolded at Starville School in Jahi, Abuja, after a teacher was accused of slapping a student who had supposedly pushed him twice.

Clash between parents and teacher at Starville School

According to reports, the situation escalated during a meeting with the school’s principal. The child’s parents confronted the teacher, and in the heat of the moment, they allegedly slapped him several times in retaliation for hitting their child.

Reactions across social media

The incident has stirred strong reactions online, sparking arguments about where the line is drawn between a teacher’s responsibilities and parental discipline.

“Let’s be clear. I’m responsible for training my children; your duty is to teach them. If you decide to do both, then we’ll have a problem.”

@SONof_AYELOJA added:
“Your son can push the teacher twice, but the teacher can’t discipline him by slapping him? The moment the mother also slapped the teacher, I knew exactly where the child picked up that behaviour.”

More comments continued to pour in as people debated the matter.

@Mayorofoweto remarked:
“Seeing the comments makes me wonder what kind of children the next generation will produce. Parenting isn’t solely for parents. Still, I blame the teacher for just standing there taking the slaps—if it were me, it would’ve turned into a two-on-two fight.”

@AseneBangoura83 commented:
“The teacher was too calm and timid. That’s what poverty does. When he was slapped, he was thinking about losing his job, how to feed his family, paying rent… everything overwhelmed him.”

The confrontation has reignited discussions about school discipline, boundaries, and what roles educators and parents should play in managing children’s behavior.
