President Tinubu Awards N200,000 to Nigerian Teen Who Won Global English Contest

President Tinubu awarded ₦200,000 to 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi from Yobe State for winning the TeenEagle Global English competition in London, where she outperformed students from 69 countries.

The Federal Government has honored 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi from Yobe State with a ₦200,000 cash prize after she emerged as the World Best in English at the TeenEagle Global Finals held in London.

The award was presented in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who praised Nafisa for her exceptional performance, beating over 20,000 students from 69 countries—including native English-speaking nations.

“You are the future of Nigeria and have made us proud,” Dr. Alausa said, emphasizing the government’s renewed commitment to education under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Nafisa was celebrated alongside fellow Nigerian finalists Rukaiya Fema and Khadija Kalli, who were previously awarded full scholarships by the Atiku Abubakar Foundation for their achievements.

Dr. Alausa also announced that other Nigerian students who excelled in international competitions will receive additional cash awards of over ₦100,000.

Professor Suiwaba Ahmad, Minister of State for Education, applauded Nafisa’s determination and encouraged her to see this success as just the beginning.

“Nigerian youths can compete and excel globally. Nafisa is proof that we can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s best,” she said.

In her remarks, Nafisa expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, the Atiku Abubakar Foundation, her school—Nigerian Tulip International College—and her parents for their unwavering support.

The Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Abba Idris, also commended Nafisa’s win and reaffirmed the state’s dedication to prioritizing education and celebrating academic excellence.
