A gas leak triggered a fire at Deeper Life Campus in Oyo State, destroying properties worth millions of naira, though no lives were lost, according to the Oyo State Fire Service.

A fire outbreak has destroyed properties worth millions of naira at a school in Oyo State.
The incident occurred on Sunday at the Deeper Life Campus Ground in Sogunro, along the Ibadan/Oyo Expressway. Eyewitnesses said the fire started in a hall being used as both a kitchen and a storage area.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said a gas leak in the kitchen caused the fire.
“When our officers arrived, the campus hall—used as a store and kitchen—was already engulfed in flames,” Akinwande explained. “Our team acted swiftly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other buildings on campus. Fortunately, no lives were lost.”
He added that police officers from the Moniya Division were on hand to provide security during the firefighting operation.
Akinwande also noted that after extinguishing the fire, officers conducted a fire prevention lecture for members of the campus community to raise safety awareness.
The Oyo State Fire Service further reported a separate fire incident on Friday evening at a duplex on Hazmat Street, Kuola, off Akala Expressway, Ibadan.
According to the agency, the blaze—reported around 6:50 p.m.—was sparked by a lighted mosquito coil that ignited nearby flammable materials.
Firefighters, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Mrs. Adedeji, successfully contained the flames with assistance from the Federal Fire Service and Sweetco Fire Service. Police officers from the Kuola Division also provided security during the operation.
Akinwande, who also serves as Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, confirmed that there were no casualties.
“We urge residents to install fire extinguishers in their homes and exercise caution with open flames or heat sources. Quick action and proper safety measures can prevent avoidable losses,” he advised.
The operation concluded successfully, and all fire trucks returned to base by 9:23 p.m.
Residents are urged to report fire incidents promptly by calling 08067439223, 08054353501, or the toll-free number 615.
