Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has awarded full scholarships to 30 gifted students to attend the Federal Government Academy Suleja, as part of his administration’s efforts to improve education by supporting top-performing students from public schools.
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has awarded full scholarships to 30 gifted students from the state to attend the Federal Government Academy Suleja.
Governor Lawal made the announcement during a meeting at the Government House with the students and the leadership of the Muhammad Kabir Danbaba Centre for Women and Youth Development.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, it was highlighted that the Muhammad Kabir Danbaba Centre for Women and Youth Development played a crucial role in Zamfara State’s recognition as the top-performing northern state in the National Examination Council (NECO) entrance exams for gifted students.
The statement also noted that many of the top-performing students came from public schools.
Governor Lawal congratulated the students and their families, acknowledging their achievements as a testament to his administration’s efforts in improving education.
“Your remarkable performance shows that our administration’s declaration of an emergency in education was not in vain,” Lawal said.
“In the past, Zamfara consistently ranked at the bottom in education nationwide, which led us to declare a state of emergency in the educational sector last year. We are renovating over 300 schools across all 14 Local Government Areas and are implementing measures to train teachers and enhance the quality of education in public schools.
“I myself attended public schools, including Government Secondary School, Kachia, unlike my siblings who attended prestigious institutions like Kings College. We are committed to restoring the quality of our public schools.
“I am pleased to announce that all 30 gifted students will receive full scholarships, covering all expenses, so no parent will need to pay anything. This is just the beginning, as we aim to continue providing this support to all our students.”
Earlier, Alhaji Sarkin Pawa Malami, Chairman of the Muhammad Kabir Danbaba Centre for Women and Youth Development, discussed the centre’s activities and offered suggestions on how the government could further support its initiatives.
