Senator Victor Umeh has awarded scholarships to 223 indigent students from Anambra Central Senatorial District to support their tertiary education and foster leadership and nation-building skills.

Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, has awarded scholarships to 223 bright but indigent students who have gained admission to tertiary institutions through the Senator Victor Umeh Scholarship Foundation.
During the unveiling of the 2024 edition of the scheme, Umeh highlighted that the goal is to support deserving students from low-income backgrounds, who were carefully selected from the 58 communities in the senatorial district.
The selection process involved Town Union Presidents from each community identifying, screening, and nominating two candidates, bringing the total to 116, while additional beneficiaries were chosen by key stakeholders, including clergymen and Archbishops, from among the needy.
The scholarship program officially commenced in 2007, originally chaired by Peter Uzoezie and Emeka Anietoh, and has expanded from Umeh’s kindred in Aguluzigbo community to the entire Anambra Central Senatorial District, with funds disbursed through Fidelity Bank Plc.
Umeh emphasized that the scholarship aims to empower academically gifted students from underprivileged backgrounds to continue their education, fostering both academic excellence and strong character.
He stated that his motivation for the scholarship stemmed from his belief that education is a powerful tool to combat poverty, crime, and disease, and that without it, individuals may struggle to reach their full potential.
Umeh urged the selected students to recognize the opportunity as preparation for future leadership roles and nation-building.
