A Rivers State LG chairman, Eugene Chita Epelle, is accused of attacking a teenage girl after she exposed the deplorable condition of a public secondary school in Ahoada West through viral photos and videos online.

Tension is mounting in Rivers State following allegations that the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Eugene Chita Epelle, assaulted a teenage girl after she shared videos online highlighting the deplorable condition of her public secondary school.
The girl reportedly posted photos and clips showing severely damaged classrooms, broken facilities, and a general lack of basic learning resources at a government-owned school in Oduoku Community. Her posts quickly gained attention on social media and sparked public concern.
In the widely circulated video, the teenager appealed directly to local authorities to intervene, stressing that the poor learning environment was harming students’ futures. She pointed out the absence of desks, boards, windows, electricity, and even teachers, adding that the school’s population had dropped drastically—from over 1,000 students to fewer than 100—due to neglect.
Residents confirmed that the school, once thriving, has fallen into disrepair, forcing many parents to withdraw their children.
However, shortly after the video went viral, reports emerged that the local government chairman allegedly confronted and physically attacked the girl over her online exposure of the school’s condition. The allegation has since generated outrage, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and protection for young whistleblowers.
As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been released by the local government authorities regarding the incident.
