In Akintude words:

I’m delighted to announce my selection as one of the 2022 fellows of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders of the the United States’ Government’s Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI).

Feels good to be selected out of over 9k applicants from Nigeria 😍😍. The Fellowship embodies the United States’ commitment to the future of Africa, to promote mutual understanding between the citizens of other countries and the United States.

During my time in the US, I will be studying the Leadership in Civic Engagement track The The Presidential Precinct in Charlottesville, Virginia – a four-member consortium, consisting of two premier universities in the US—The University of Virginia and William & Mary—and two historic sites—James Madison’s Montpelier and James Monroe’s Highland

I will also work to develop a focus project exploring shrinking civic space in Africa and the role of civic technology.

I am grateful to US Mission Nigeria for this opportunity, and also excited about this platform to join young leaders from across Africa, to explore networking as I look forward to contributing more robustly to strengthening democratic institutions, spurring economic growth, and enhancing peace and security in Africa.

Akintunde has previously bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Education Management (Mathematics) from the University of Ibadan, South-West, Nigeria. He proceeded to the University of Sussex, Brighton, England for his Master’s Degree in Media Practice for Development and Social change.
