ABOUT COLLEGE OF NURSING SCIENCES ST. GERARD’S CATHOLIC HOSPITAL KADUNA
From inception to its present state, the educational institution has gone through various phases of metamorphosis
The school was established in 1965 as a Basic Midwifery Training school. The Midwifery school had tremendous success in the training which resulted in a one hundred percent pass at the final council examination.
The Basic Nursing program was birthed out the need to cater to the health needs of the northern population which was advocated by Archbishop Emeritus Peter Jatau. Approval was given by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for the commencement of the program in 1992.
There have been a lot of upgrades in the school from equipment to building structures.
The push for expansion and transition from a school of nursing to a college of nursing has been in the pipeline for some years and has finally come to limelight.
Currently, the institution is now known as the College of Nursing Sciences which has three schools in its sub-divisions:
- School of Basic Nursing
- School of Basic Midwifery
- School of Post Basic Nursing
The college has a well-equipped library and e-library, computer lab, practical rooms for nurses and midwives, a sports complex, and spacious classrooms and halls.
This transition has placed the institution at one of the top positions of educational intuitions in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
College Of Nursing Sciences ST. Gerard’s Catholic Hospital Kaduna Admission Requirements
- Five (5) credits in the following subjects: English language, mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology in not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, GCE.
- MUST HAVE COMPLETED BASIC MIDWIFERY REGISTERED WITH THE NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL OF NIGERIA HAVING QUALIFIED LICENSE TO PRACTICE.
