An NYSC asthma survivor shared how a man she didn’t even know stayed by her side during a life-threatening attack at camp, supported her through recovery, and eventually became her loving partner.

A Nigerian woman has shared a touching story of how a frightening health emergency during her NYSC days led her to find the love of her life. What started as a moment of fear and uncertainty eventually blossomed into a beautiful marriage filled with happiness and children.
According to her, the incident happened about 14 years ago when she and her now-husband were both youth corps members. They were traveling from Onitsha to Gombe in the same vehicle but had never spoken or interacted with each other. At that time, they were simply strangers going to the same destination, unaware that their lives were about to become deeply connected.
One cold night at the NYSC camp, after she had finished washing her clothes and gone to bed, she suddenly experienced a severe asthma attack. The harsh weather triggered her condition, and by morning, her breathing had worsened badly. The situation became critical, and camp officials quickly arranged for her to be rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe for urgent medical attention.
During the emergency, a call was made for medical assistance, and her future husband, who knew nothing about her, responded immediately. Without hesitation, he joined the team attending to her and stayed by her side throughout the ordeal. At the hospital, he quietly supported her, offering comfort without saying much. When she regained consciousness, she saw him standing near her, gently holding her feet and asking if she could breathe better. His calm presence gave her reassurance during one of the most vulnerable moments of her life.
After receiving treatment, she recovered and was discharged later that day. They both returned to the camp, but things were no longer the same. What began as a simple act of kindness grew into friendship, then love. Over time, their bond deepened, and they eventually got married.
Today, the couple is happily married with three children, and she still reflects on that life-changing moment with gratitude. She describes herself as an asthma survivor whom God helped and credits that difficult experience for bringing her and her husband together.
