After graduating from the higher institution, there are several experiences that an average Nigerian student had on campus which can never be erased from their memory. These memories may make you want to go back to being a student even after your graduation. Let’s take a look at some highlights of life in Nigerian campus.
1. Life as fresher: No matter how hard you try to blend in and hide the fact that you are a novice on campus, they are still some things that would betray you. For example, the difficulty in locating your department or offices to process your admission. Fresher’s takes everything on campus serious because they don’t want to fall victims of anything but they eventually do, because they are being naive. They fall for the tricks of lecturers, the tricks of other students and even the tricks of those that sell things at the cafeteria.
2. Matriculation saga: We all know of the tradition of Nigerian students during matriculation. They get you soaked in the morning of your matriculation with all manner of liquid that they could find and organize a party for you at night. Most new students always brag of how nobody can mess them up, but they end up doing nothing but enjoy the fun once it is initiated on them. The night party is always a bomb as new students gets to meet new people and engage in extra moral lesson in the after party…… Hahaha!
3. The gang: On campus everybody has their own friends they role with. This group of friends has their similarities and uniqueness, most of the times; these are the things that brought them together. The memories with these people are always fresh and seem to be the best. Example their support during exams/test, they up for you during class attendance, help you out with assignments, also assist you financially etc. there is always this one person that is the fun of every group he/she makes the joke and also help everyone to catch the joke; such fun.
4. Lecturer disease: I don’t know if the lecturers in Nigerian institution take some time out to plan how to frustrate their students. When a lecturer decides to be on your case, you will practically learn what it means to be humble. The lecturer will be like “class rep, what is the name of that young man?” That is all. The next thing you know is that you are visiting his office after every lecture just to be on his safe side. The annoying part is the question you get when you visit his office; “yes, what can I do for you?”because you never knew your offence initially, you begin to mumble words then he tells you “if you don’t have anything to say, please leave my office”. When you hear that the semester result is out, his course is the first thing you want to see and only you and God knew what you saw…. Hahaha!

If you never experience something like this throughout your days on campus, I must say you attended a very prayerful campus fellowship.
5. Hunger strike: This article will not be complete without this one. There are days on campus when it will seem as though the spirit of poverty has come to be your room mate. At that period you will be as broke as a broken bottle (no money and food stuff). These are the days you will remember those you know and those who knows you. When the same situation hit your friends too you will feel the heat, because they will run to you for refuge and that is the joy of having family on campus.
6. Exam drama: While most people will take exam periods to be times of seriousness, exams times can only be as serious as you want them to be. Exam periods could be times of fun regardless of the heat on campus. There is fun in the times when students come together to share ideas, engage in all night reading and make plans on how the whole “exam thing” is going to be inside the exam hall. There are so many scenes during exams like when students come to class soaked with water from the rain (just not to miss their papers), some come feeling sleepy due to all night reading, some come hungry, some come happy. The best exam time you will enjoy on campus is the final year exams. This is the time where seriousness is at its peak. Campus fellowships will come up with special programs for graduating students with themes like; I must graduate, No more extension etc. times like this is when the spiritual people on campus become important.
There is whole lot more fun on campus. The list is unending.
