Cursory: Three Nigerian master’s students in the UK launched Sandfortcare, a startup aiding elderly parents in Nigeria. Inspired by a colleague’s loss due to lack of care, they offer personalized healthcare services via a subscription model, aiming to expand globally beyond the UK.

Three Nigerian students studying for their master’s degrees in the United Kingdom have launched a startup called Sandfortcare to support elderly parents in Nigeria whose children live abroad. Damilola Olaopa, Hameed Abdulrahman, and Isatayo Samuel initiated the project after witnessing a colleague lose his father in Nigeria due to lack of care while he worked as a healthcare assistant in the UK.
Olaopa shared the heartbreaking story that inspired the startup’s creation, stating, “It was a shocking experience. He spoke to his father about assisting him to cargo some goods to the UK, and twenty four hours after the conversation, the next call he received from Nigeria was that his father had passed on.
“The most traumatizing aspect of the situation is that while he was taking care of people’s families in the UK, nobody was able to take care of his father. That aspect was what prompted us to float this startup,” he added.
The founders aim to ensure Nigerian parents receive quality healthcare services, even when their children are unable to care for them personally.
Sandfortcare offers personalized healthcare and support services to Nigerian parents, tailored to their specific needs. The startup operates through a monthly subscription model, with subscriptions sponsored by Nigerians living abroad.
Beneficiaries in Nigeria receive personalized care plans, regular health checks, nutrition guidance, remote consultations, and medication management. Sponsors in the UK receive timely wellness reports for their parents.
The founders plan to expand Sandfortcare’s services beyond the UK to other countries in Europe, Canada, the United States, and North America. “For now the startup is for Nigerians in the Diaspora especially in the UK. We are presently registered in the UK, but we have plans to expand the scope beyond just the UK.”
