Two students from the Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji were tragically killed in Akure, Ondo State, when a Toyota sedan struck them while they were riding a bicycle on the Akure-Ondo highway, prompting officials and student bodies to condemn reckless driving and mourn the loss of the young lives.

A tragic incident occurred in Akure, Ondo State capital, on Wednesday night when two students were fatally struck by a vehicle.
The victims, Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola, who were students at the Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji, were riding a bicycle along the busy Akure-Ondo highway when a Toyota sedan collided with them.
Oriade Wellington Adebawo, the Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Emergency Response, confirmed that the students died at the scene of the accident.
Adebawo, while expressing condolences to the victims’ families, condemned the reckless driving that led to the tragedy and cautioned drivers against speeding in the state.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ondo State Axis, also expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
In a statement signed by Chairman Joshua Oluwarotimi, Secretary-General Ajibola Oluwanishola, and Public Relations Officer Blessing Kehinde, the student body described the deaths as devastating, saying, “We mourn the loss of two young lives taken far too soon. Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola were not just students but individuals with unique talents, aspirations, and dreams. They had their whole lives ahead of them, and we can only imagine the great things they would have accomplished if given the chance. As we reflect on the lives of these young people, let us remember that every life is precious, and every person has the right to live safely and peacefully.”
